¿No te da ningún error en concreto cuando no puedes actualizar? Normalmente aparece una ventana que te deja un número del error para tener una idea de la causa. No obstante te dejo unas indicaciones básicas de Microsoft por si son de utilidad:

Intenta actualizar deshabilitando momentáneamente el antivirus.

Verifica que el servicio de Windows Update está iniciado, tal vez por alguna razón esté detenido:

Inicio / Panel de control / Sistema y mantenimiento / Herramientas administrativas / doble clic en Servicios / busca Windows Update y le haces clic derecho y después clic en Reiniciar (si es que está detenido).

También sigue todos estos pasos previos y en tu respuesta nos dejas lo informes que se solicitan:

1º Actualiza tu sistema Aquí (Utiliza el I. Explorer) Si no te es posible salta este paso.

2º Borra todas las cookies y limpia el registro con CCleaner

3º Vete a Inicio- Panel de Control--> Java (si usas Java) y elimina todos los archivos temporales.

4º Borrar archivos temporales--> Desde Inicio, Ejecutar, escribe %TEMP%, pulsa Enter y elimina todo el contenido.

5º Pásale el Malwarebytes Antimalware. (Actualizalo, y al acabar el Scaneo elije la opcion eliminar, despues guarda el report y lo pegas) Si tienes alguna duda aquí tienes un Manual de Malwarebytes Antimalware

6º Ademas, haz un análisis con un antivirus OnLine:

Free Online Virus Scan - BitDefender Online Scanner

* Debes usar el Internet Explorer y aceptar los ActiveX.
* Le pones que elimine lo que te detecte.
